This is a key specialist role within Cheshire East Council’s Transport service, responsible for ensuring public transport data, systems and passenger information are accurate, compliant and fit for purpose across the borough.
As Publicity & Data Officer, you will play a vital role in maintaining the confidence of residents, operators and partners by ensuring transport information is reliable, accessible and clearly communicated. From managing databases and complying with national standards, to coordinating public‑facing publicity and installing timetable information across the network, this role sits at the heart of how people access and experience transport services.
This is an established role within a knowledgeable and supportive team, offering variety, responsibility and the opportunity to develop deep technical expertise while making a visible difference to everyday journeys.
About the Role
As Publicity & Data Officer, you will be responsible for the accurate maintenance, security and compliance of public transport information and data systems for Cheshire East. You’ll ensure that passengers, operators and partners have access to up‑to‑date, clear and consistent information, while meeting national standards and statutory requirements.
The role includes managing transport databases, developing and maintaining procedures, coordinating public transport publicity, and working closely with internal teams, operators and external bodies. You’ll support project development, including real-time passenger information (RTPI) and bus stop infrastructure, data analysis, reporting, procurement activity and budget monitoring, and provide technical guidance to colleagues where required.
A significant part of the role involves coordinating and installing timetable and passenger information across the borough, including site visits and on‑street work using a council fleet van. You’ll also support the work of Monitoring Officers to ensure service objectives are delivered efficiently and accurately.
This role is based at the Middlewich office, with hybrid working available. Regular travel across Cheshire East is expected.

About you
- Advanced IT skills, including database management
- Strong understanding of data accuracy, compliance and information governance
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and standards, such as the Data Protection Act, accessibility requirements and transport‑related regulations
- Experience of managing or maintaining technical systems and procedures
- Ability to analyse data and present information clearly and accurately
- Experience in supporting projects
- Confidence working with internal and external partners, providing specialist advice
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with customers and stakeholders in spoken English
- A flexible and proactive approach to work
- Willingness and ability to travel across the borough and undertake on‑site duties
