Principal Highways Development Officer
About the Role
As Highways Development Manager, you will join a team within the Infrastructure Service, playing a part in the delivery of efficient and cost-effective highway development management across Cheshire East. You’ll play an important role in shaping the borough’s transport infrastructure by developing responses to planning applications, negotiating developer contributions, and recommending appropriate highway mitigation works. This position involves influencing policy, guiding major developments, and representing the council as highway authority in planning committee meetings, all while ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and community needs.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Qualifications & Experience:
- A degree in engineering, transport, planning, or a relevant or related field.
- Proven experience of working in a highways, transportation or planning environment.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Practical knowledge of traffic management, design guidance, planning policy, transport planning and associated transport planning software.
- Knowledge of the role of transport network management towards transport and environmental objectives.
- Knowledge of the requirements for preparing transport assessments.
- Skills & Tools:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant departmental systems (e.g., Drawing packages, document control systems and web-based databases).
- Communication & Flexibility:
- Ability to converse confidently with stakeholders and provide clear advice in accurate spoken English.
- Willingness and ability to travel across the borough.
- A flexible and collaborative approach to work.
