As a Mansion Assistant (Conservation Assistant) at Tatton Park you’ll be working as part of a great housekeeping team in an incredible place, helping with the day-to-day conservation cleaning and care of the collections to museum accreditation standards. No detail will go unnoticed, and you’ll keep a keen eye on everything from the environmental conditions in a room, to signs of wear and tear. You’ll keep accurate records too.
You will attend, monitor and assist with a wide range of activities (filming, exhibition installations, Christmas) in the Mansion whilst maintaining these standards. Open up and secure facilities as required, acting as a keyholder, and where necessary undertake daytime responsibility for the security of the Mansion acting as Duty Supervisor in the absence of the Mansion & Collections Manager and Mansion Supervisor.
In this visitor facing role, you will talk to visitors about the work you’re doing, and the collections, to provide excellent standards of visitor care, assist with access and ensure an enjoyable and quality experience for Mansion visitors and users, whilst maintaining a very high standard of collection conservation, presentation, upkeep, cleanliness, safety and security.

You will be part of the team caring for over 15,000 historical artefacts and fine art. One of the largest National Trust collections. With international and nationally significant collections and objects, a fascinating social history, a house filled with historical technology and a large number of rooms open to the public. The Mansion is a busy, active environment and you will also be involved with Christmas and exhibition installations and ad hoc events such as filming supervision
Tatton Park is a National Trust site and collection, financed and managed by Cheshire East Council on a lease agreement. The 18th C Neo-classical Mansion is at the heart of the beautiful Tatton Park estate, you will be part of the team caring for this busy multifaceted award Visitor Attraction
This role is 34hrs a week, working 3-4 days at a time over a 4-week rolling rota pattern that covers 7 days. Hours are 8am – 5pm.
We'd love to hear from you if you have;
- A keen interest in history, historic properties and conservation of their collections
- A good understanding of preventive conservation
- Knowledge of the approach required when working with fragile historic collections as well as Health & Safety and emergency procedures
- Good manual dexterity and eye-to-hand skills and ability to work from ladders and tower scaffold
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, and are a great team player
